The great outdoors is one of Canada’s biggest holiday attractions. From hiking to biking, skiing to sailing there are endless opportunities to get out and have some fun. Outdoor equipment stores and rental shops are top notch and there are superb indoor facilities as well. The skiing is particularly good, attracting growing numbers of European visitors who are getting fed up of poor snowfall in the Alps. Big resorts include Whistler, Banff and Jasper though there are many, many more.



The National Parks around Banff and Lake Louise are breathtaking. All four seasons attract visitors – there is everything from hot spring and golf courses to an extraordinary 1,000 glaciers to explore. It’s a world heritage site with plenty of guides and information centres around to help visitors make the most of it. But one extra warning – it’s high up and the altitude can take some getting used to. Locals say you should drink plenty of fluids and take things slow while you acclimatise.
